About

10547599_10204437996688186_252904174316784593_nMy name is Jessen Shah and welcome to my blog. I’m a student, environmentalist and aspiring environmental economist. I currently study Environment, Economics & Ecology at the University of York. My long-term goal is to pursue a career in environmental consultancy, specialising in environmental economics and policy.

The natural world is something that is not only vital for our existence via ecosystem services but it also enriches our lives with its outstanding beauty. I find it incredibly fascinating how everything has evolved over time and formed into the intricate web of relationships that support the great biodiversity we love and enjoy today. Sir David Attenborough who has of course been a huge inspiration in my life says “an understanding of the natural world and what’s in it is a source of not only a great curiosity but great fulfilment”. I strongly believe this to be true and there is so much more to learn and explore in the complex world we live in.

It is clear to me that the challenges we face in the world of conservation require not only scientific research and political backing, but also a well-informed society.Through this blog I intend to increase awareness of the natural world, it’s importance and the challenges facing it.

– Jessen
